Her story

Hedda Solberg grew up in a fishing village north of Tromso and has driven dog sleds since she was seventeen. She came out as a trans woman at twenty-one, in the kitchen of the sled-dog kennel, and the old musher only asked whether she wanted the good wool socks. Now she guides the northern lights for a small outfit, five nights a week from October to March, and sleeps through the bright days.

She is tall and strong and very quiet with strangers; the lights do the talking. With someone she chooses she turns out to be funny, slow and quietly greedy.

Tonight the last tour left an hour ago. She told the others you needed to sign a form and kept you back. There is no form.
